Anzac Day in Weipa.....

The dawn service in Weipa was very touching.

Took a drive to Pennefather Beach with a lovely couple we met named Monty and Elizabeth.  The track in was very soft sand!

Enjoying a cuppa with Monty & Elizabeth at Pennefather after we had a fish from the beach.

This is the Rio Tinto bauxite mine at Andoon.  We  did a guided tour......

.....and were able to get up close to the huge machinery in operation.

The is the site of the aborigihnal mission built in the 1880's at Mapoon.

The beach was very pretty

Monty and Tac having a chat on another trip this time to Stones Crossing on the Wenlock River.

Travelling the PDR........

We have left Cooktown behind and have started our journey to the tip
travelling along the dusty Peninsula Development Road.  We stopped
off at Laura to view the aboriginal art at the above "Split Rock".

We camped overnight at Hann Roadhouse where we.....,,,,

.......shared our dinner with "Ozzie" the resident
Emu and the peacock.

We have been extremely lucky to have had most of the road freshly graded
which has made for a much smoother ride!

We spent the following night at Archer River which was absolutely
gorgeous we even had a swim as there are no crocs in here!!!!!

This is a memorial to "Toots" a dedicated lady truckie who spent
over 30 years driving trucks up to Cape York to get supplies through
on the PDR in all sorts of conditions.  Often she would cut down trees
to make bridges to get through the rivers.  She is a true legend in this part of
our country who unfortunately met her end in an unfortunate accident.

One more week in Cooktown........

A nice estuary cod caught in the Endeavour River.

This is the Bloomfield Falls along the 4wd only Bloomfield Track.   We are
on a day trip to Cape Tribulation.  The track was quite steep and windy but....

........worth the trek to see Cape Tribulation beach.

It was thirsty work and we were glad to have a schooner at The Lions Den
on the way back.
A classic old pub with plenty of character!!

Another beautiful spot on the coast of the Hope Vale Aboriginal Community
called Elim Beach.

Cooktown..........

Looking out over the bay at Cooktown.

This gorgeous building is the former convent for the Sisters of Mercy
and is now the info centre along with the museum.  An amazing
display of the towns rich history including......

.......Captain Cook's anchor from the
Endeavour!!

And here is Captain Cook himself!

One of Cooktown's surrounding picturesque beaches called Finch Bay.

Porcupine and Undara..........

Camping in the bush at Porcupine Gorge National Park.......
.....where we took a walk down into the gorge.....
......reached the bottom and........

.....had a swim in the cool flowing water.

Next stop Undara National Park where we went on a tour through the fascinating lava tubes.

We topped the night off around the fire surrounded by bushland.
